Date: 2021-01-21 09:01 am (UTC)I agree that would be less overwhelming. We still do not know just what this place will have in store or a sense of what obstacles may arise. For now, the wisest course of action may be to simply observe the situation and reconvene once information has been gathered.
[Information dumps such as the ones the GemSci researchers have given him tend not to be so easy for him to absorb. It's one reason why Huaisang had struggled so much in his studies back at the Cloud Recesses. That and it was just hard to focus on boring lectures when the sun was shining or there was a pretty bird sitting outside in a tree. He's done far better with more hands on approaches or information being broken down into smaller portions to review and analyze, at least, when he's had motivation to learn the subject.]
As for Wei Wuxian, individual desires should come secondary to finding and securing a way home. I feel that it is more important that we return to our sects with haste.
[It'd been a harsh lesson Huaisang had needed to learn himself, that sometimes what he wants simply doesn't matter compared to what has to be done. Of course, he isn't bound by strong personal ties to anyone anymore since his brother died and his friendships decayed into ruin over the years. It's easy for him to let go of those he's emotionally distant from or lacks strong connections with.
He's not heartless though, just coldly pragmatic sometimes. And at present, short on resources such as manpower and the energy to devote to extraneous pursuits.]

That also means they're on the same page. It's not the same page that his Wei Ying is on; his Wei Ying doesn't know about Nie Huaisang's role in everything. He will need to find time to explain that. ]

We should work towards one goal.
[ They don't need any more sect infighting. It would be better for all of them to be able to rely on each other and work as a team. It's a miracle they have other people they can trust at all.

[Not since Mo Xuanyu, honestly, and everyone knows how well that turned out. The closest Huaisang has come to teamwork outside his sect has been maneuvering others like pieces on a gameboard.]
At least, not in a traditional sense.
[Though after the conclusion of his last match, he's about as open to learning alternate ways of doing things as he'll ever be.]

But the thing about this place, is that Lan Wangji used to have a chessboard, and he preferred to let the pieces choose their own way. Nie Huaisang moved all his pieces with an invisible hand. Yes, that nature, once molded, is hard to break.
But neither of them have any access, here. Here? They are both pawns, at best. ]
They are unlikely to be truthful.
